About The Role
We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Scientist to join our San Francisco Tri-State Property and Casualty practice. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that address some of the most pressing issues in insurance and climate risk. As a Data Scientist, you will leverage your programming skills and industry knowledge to develop analytical and predictive models that support client needs and internal research initiatives. Your work will involve processing and analyzing diverse datasets, including telematics, claims, catastrophe models, and climate variables, using advanced programming languages such as Python, R, and SAS. You will contribute to innovative insurance product development, support regulatory rate filings, and explore the impacts of climate change and natural catastrophes across various sectors. The role emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and a commitment to producing high-quality, actionable insights that influence industry practices and policies.
Qualifications

Completed Bachelor’s degree or higher in fields such as data science, data engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related disciplines.

Minimum of one year of relevant professional experience demonstrating quantitative and data-driven work, particularly in property and casualty insurance, natural catastrophe modeling, or climate risk analysis.

Proficiency in programming languages including SAS, R, or Python for data manipulation, analytics, and modeling tasks.

Strong skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Word.

Understanding of relational database concepts and data management principles.

Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government-issued Public Trust security clearance.

Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship or immigration support.
Responsibilities

Manipulate, summarize, and validate large datasets to ensure accuracy and consistency using statistical programming languages.

Build risk scores utilizing geospatial, climate, and other contextual data sources.

Develop predictive models employing linear and non-linear techniques to support client and internal projects.

Contribute to ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes that facilitate data integration for analytics, product development, and research initiatives.

Participate in peer reviews and quality checks of analytical work to maintain high standards.

Assist project teams and managers in scoping new opportunities and defining project requirements.

Draft clear, professional reports and visual exhibits tailored for internal stakeholders and external clients.
