As a Sr. Decision Scientist, you will support the Operations Intelligence team in their efforts to delight our Customers, Partners, and Stores. You will leverage your analytical chops across the full spectrum of Descriptive, Diagnostic, Predictive, and Prescriptive Analytics to enhance the Starbucks Customer, Partner, and Coffeehouse experience, improve operational efficiency, and elevate our Green Apron Service.

As a Senior Decision Scientist, you will…

  • Model leadership behaviors: Act in accordance with Starbucks Mission and Values
  • Mentor and elevate the team: Provide technical leadership, share best practices, and support the growth of junior decision scientists through coaching and peer review
  • Drive exploratory analysis and strategic insights: Conduct deep-dive analyses to uncover trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities, translating complex data into actionable recommendations for system and process improvements across staffing, scheduling, retail deployment, throughput, customer service times, and holistic Customer Experience - just to name a few
  • Data Visualization: Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant reports, charts, graphs. Demonstrate skilled communication and storytelling skills. Mentor/instruct decision scientists and data analysts in best practices and privacy/security in visualization techniques
  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and thought leadership: Stay ahead of industry trends, explore emerging methodologies, and proactively identify opportunities to innovate
  • Influence cross-functional strategy and decision-making – Collaborate with engineering, operations, and product teams to develop decision science solutions and guide long-term operations strategy

We’d Love To Hear From People With

  • Bachelor’s Degree or experience in Stats, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering, Econ, Psychology, Quantitative Social Science, or similar
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences
  • Advanced proficiency in coding languages for data preparation and modeling, including SQL and Python
  • Skilled knowledge of statistics (descriptive, regression, etc.)
  • Business experience with several data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Demonstrated curiosity and analytical rigor, with a strong ability to explore complex datasets, identify patterns, and generate actional insights
  • Years of experience in specific field or utilizing designated skills: Minimum 3 years of experience

  • If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
