We are seeking a motivated, self-directed Software Engineer to join our high-performing Solutions Engineering team. We are looking for a developer who is ready to use their VueJS and Typescript skills, integrate Drupal as a true decoupled CMS, expose content via JSON:API and GraphQL data formats, and build applications using modern web frameworks, leveraging JAMstack concepts.

Every day you will make a difference in the lives of people who want to know more about the ASU programs offerings by working closely with stakeholders, units, Design, Content, SEO, QA, and analytics teams to guide the technical landscape of our products; you will follow the standards and integrations across projects to create efficiencies and scalable solutions.

The EdPlus engineering team is responsible for creating solutions and enhancing our current technology stack for a variety of learner’s challenges as part of an innovative environment, refining how users engage with higher education. Working collaboratively in diverse teams, you will create forward-thinking and thoughtful experiences to ensure web products support ASU’s and EdPlus’ overall strategies and goals.

Essential Duties

  • Designs, develops, and supports high-quality technology services.
  • Communicates with cross-functional teams about various engineering topics such as detailed design, APIs, etc.
  • Conducts technical discussions with team members to understand product scope.
  • Maintains technical currency and takes advantage of professional development opportunities.
  • Maintains effective documentation and communication of engineering processes to EdPlus engineers, student engineers, and contractors.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots errors and/or problems with web-based applications.
  • Works on a collaborative, fast-paced team and with other experts across other disciplines.
  • Exhibits a passion for understanding the user and serves as a strong communicator of the users’ perspective in building the best solutions for the most meaningful problems.
  • Completes projects with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Adheres to software development lifecycle principles and standard methodologies.
  • Contributes to the larger IT community across the University.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Note

This is not a fully remote position. You must be able to reliably commute to Scottsdale, Arizona.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience in Javascript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3.
  • Demonstrated strong experience with at least one major JS library / framework such as VueJS, ReactJS.
  • Demonstrated understanding of both front-end and back-end web technologies: HTTP(S), XML, JSON, JSONP, AJAX, REST APIs and GraphQL.
  • Evidence of knowledge of NodeJS and its ecosystem, content management systems (Drupal, WordPress), and web services.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with static site generators (e.g., Gridsome, NuxtJS, Gatsby).
  • Experience with responsive design frameworks such as Tailwind, Bootstrap or Material design.
  • Experience with AWS Tooling (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Dynamodb, Appsync) and serverless application frameworks.
  • Demonstrated skills with a variety of development methodologies and can adapt these to the needs of an organization using Agile processes.
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate thoughtfully, use problem-solving skills, and build positive working relationships with cross-functional teams.
