Position Summary:
The Software Asset Management (SAM) Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the organization’s software assets are managed, licensed, and utilized in compliance with vendor agreements and regulatory requirements. This senior role oversees SAM policies, performs regular audits, mitigates compliance risks, and supports continuous process improvement to optimize software investments.

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:
$85,480 to $157,868 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
$77,709 to $143,516 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
$69,938 to $129,165 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)
The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:

Ensure adherence to software licensing terms and vendor agreements.

Develop, implement, and enforce SAM compliance policies and procedures.

Plan and execute periodic internal software compliance audits.

Coordinate responses to external vendor audits and manage remediation activities.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all software assets, licenses, and entitlements.

Identify potential compliance risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Proactively monitor changes in licensing models or regulations that may impact the organization.

Work closely with procurement, IT, and legal departments to support software procurement and negotiations.

Provide guidance and training to staff regarding SAM best practices and compliance requirements.

Analyze audit findings to identify areas for process improvement and cost savings.

Leverage SAM tools and industry knowledge to streamline compliance processes.
Qualifications
Education:
Minimum:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
-
CSAM Certified
Preferred:
-
CITAM Certified
-
ITIL4 Certified
Experience:
Minimum:
-
7+ years of experience in Software Asset management or Software licensing compliance including experience with SaaS management and/or multi-cloud environments.

Experience with the integration of SAM tools and systems (e.g., with CMDB, ITSM suite)
-
Experience designing or refining metrics/KPIs to measure SAM effectiveness and maturity.

Hands-on experience applying automation and AI in SAM processes for efficient compliance monitoring.

Proficiency managing software assets in cloud-based and SaaS-heavy environments.

Proven experience in maturing or evolving a Software Asset Management program.
Preferred:
-
1 or more years of experience leading a small to mid sized team

7+ years of prior audit and compliance experience

Familiarity with contractual/legal documentation review.
Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum:

Strong knowledge of software licensing models and compliance best practices.

Experience using SAM tools (e.g. ServiceNow, Tanium, Jamf).

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Preferred:

Demonstrated ability to assess current SAM maturity, identify gaps, and lead initiatives to advance SAM maturity stages.

Strong vendor negotiation and vendor relationship management abilities

Effective cross-functional collaboration—working with IT, legal, procurement, and InfoSec teams

Proven project management skills with a track record of meeting deadlines on multiple initiatives

Highly detail-oriented in reviewing contracts, software entitlements, and asset inventories
