Senior Manager-Project Management

As a Senior Manager Project Manager at Capital One, you will drive strategy and execute on high priority projects for the company. We have a role available on the Discover Global Payment Network's (GPN) strategy team, supporting Network Integration. This is an ideal opportunity for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable navigating ambiguity, and wants to learn a brand-new business for Capital One.

Role Overview: Discover Network Strategy, Integration Team

We're building a team inside GPN Strategy to support the Network's post-close integration journey — bringing the Network into the Capital One ecosystem. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition, establish a strong operational foundation, and set the stage for future investment and growth. As a part of the team, you will:

  • Finalize and drive the post-close integration roadmap in close partnership with Network and Capital One leaders

  • Serve as a key liaison between the Network and integration programs — ensuring the Network is properly represented, identifying roadblocks and supporting their resolution

  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on integration progress and upcoming changes for the GPN population

Skills Needed:

  • Strategic Project Planning & Execution: Ability to design, develop, and manage comprehensive project plans in a dynamic environment, ensuring on-time delivery while mitigating risks. This includes understanding business strategy and translating high-level objectives into tactical, actionable plans.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Influence: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, peers, and stakeholders without direct authority. You must excel at building strong relationships and effectively communicating with all levels of the organization to secure buy-in and drive project delivery.

  • Change Management & Problem Solving: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and an evolving landscape. You'll need to proactively identify roadblocks, manage scope changes, and leverage strong problem-solving skills to resolve issues and ensure project goals are met.

  • Effective Communication & Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills are essential for providing clear, regular updates to senior leadership and serving as the key liaison between various teams. You must be able to manage stakeholder expectations and influence outcomes to support the Network's integration journey.

General Responsibilities:

  • Leading moderate to large complex projects and programs by providing strategic direction to projects, peers, and direct reports.

  • Designing, developing, and managing project plans in a complex dynamic environment, revising needs to meet changing requirements

  • Ensuring projects are being documented appropriately to mitigate risk and to be delivered on time.

  • Leveraging problem solving and influencing skills to ensure project plans deliver on intent

  • Partnering cross-functionally with project customers to provide strategic and tactical thought partnership to effectively drive project delivery

  • Building relationships and collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure delivery of commitments

  • Leading a team of project managers Exhibit outstanding influencing skills to effectively drive project / program efforts

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of excellent project management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage work in a dynamic complex environment.

  • Display a passion for coaching and developing a team of associates through their leadership style

  • Have excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform and influence outcomes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience

  • At least 7 Years of Project Management experience

  • At least 5 Years of experience in Strategic Planning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters / MBA degree

  • At least 10 years of Project Management experience

  • PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills

  • Excellent problem solving and influencing skills

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
