We're looking for a
Product Designer
to craft systems that power inclusive, scalable, and inspiring experiences. As part of the Design Systems team, you'll build the foundations that enable product teams to deliver high-quality features with speed and consistency across Microsoft.
At the core of this job, you will craft industry standard design patterns and components for Microsoft products – working across a range of platforms and devices including web, mobile and native operating systems. You will define usage guidelines and best practices for internal and external stakeholders. Deliver components and critical design system infrastructure underpinning the product and supporting the broader Fluent design system. As well as create design assets for designers that provide efficient workflows and solutions to their day-to-day tasks.
As a systems designer you will have a close-knit collaboration with designers and developers both in building the system and maintaining it. Working together to ensure naming conventions and design assets and code are in sync. As well as gathering requirements across various teams to create rationale for adding new components or features to the system in close collaboration with PM.
You will advocate for the design system by working closely with other designers and stakeholders to demonstrate its value and the advantage of using it. Through producing hands-on demos, videos and presentations as well as working 1:1, you will guide designers on how to adopt new controls into features.
You will identify user-centered design patterns including creating detailed accessibility and interaction guidelines, place designs into user context and create interactions that align to those requirements. You will need to show attention to detail and passion in the work you produce. You should have experience working closely with engineers to deliver features at a high-quality pixel perfect level. You will articulate your thinking using a variety of mediums from detailed design specifications to wireframes and functional prototypes. Experience working with design tokens and graphic/visual design is advantageous.
Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we build, and detailed accessibility specs and a11y guidance for how to build inclusive experiences is fundamental to the design system.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.
