About Smyl Fitness Rx

Smyl is a digital health startup addressing fall risk, frailty, and inactivity among older adults. We combine tablet-based assessments, mobile coaching, automated outreach, and human-led follow-ups to deliver engaging, evidence-based care.

Our users include health plans, community organizations, clinical partners, and older adults—each with unique workflows, data needs, and accessibility considerations.

We’re a small, cross-functional team where product, engineering, and operations collaborate closely to ship high-impact tools for vulnerable populations.

The Role

Smyl Fitness Rx is seeking a skilled Product Designer to establish the UX and visual foundation of our healthcare platform. While we have a strong product and engineering team, a growing customer base, and proven traction, we are now focused on developing a cohesive and scalable user experience. We’re looking for someone with the design, technical, and analytical expertise to help define that vision and bring it to life.

Our platform must serve dual purposes:

  • A robust administrative interface for internal teams and business partners
  • An intuitive, accessible experience tailored to the needs of older adult users

This role will be critical in bridging the gap between complex technical systems and the individuals who interact with them—ensuring our tools are both effective and human-centered.

What You’ll Do

1. Design Vision & Foundations

  • Develop a unified UX vision for internal and customer-facing tools
  • Establish a consistent visual language and reusable UI component system
  • Ensure accessibility and digital literacy standards across mobile, web, and voice interfaces

2. Build, Test, Iterate

  • Translate requirements into user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups
  • Leverage generative AI platforms like Replit or Lovable to rapidly build testable prototypes
  • Conduct A/B tests and usability studies with older adults, staff, and partners
  • Deliver design specs, QA guidance, and frontend theming (React/TypeScript)
  •

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • 5+ years of UI/UX design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership
  • Expertise in designing mobile-first and tablet-friendly user interfaces
  • Experience with data-rich, form-heavy environments (e.g., dashboards, admin tools)
  • Strong understanding of accessibility (WCAG/a11y) and digital literacy best practices
  • Proficiency with rapid prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Replit, Lovable)
  • Clear communication and documentation skills for design handoff and collaboration

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in U.S healthcare, older adult populations, or other HIPAA-regulated domains
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies (React, TypeScript), with ability to tweak themes/styles
  • Exposure to writing or structuring UX tests (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Gherkin)
