Overview

We are seeking a dynamic leader and impact player to join our Office of Experience and Belonging (OEB) and serve as the Managing Director, Experience and Belonging. This role will be instrumental in shaping and amplifying our commitment to people, community, and opportunity for all, as well as our organizational culture, through compelling storytelling, strategic communication, immersive events, and thoughtful design. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned communicator, collaborative strategist, and creative executor who can translate values into communications and experiences that foster community, connection, and purpose. This role demands agility, strategic thinking, and a deep commitment to co-creating conditions where all staff and stakeholders feel seen, supported, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to our shared mission.

What You’ll Do

The Managing Director, Experience and Belonging will be responsible for four essential functions: compelling storytelling, strategic communication, immersive events, and thoughtful design of resources and materials that help audiences understand and internalize the information. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned communicator, collaborative strategist, and creative executor who can translate values into communications and experiences that foster community, connection, and purpose.

You will lead cross-functional efforts to advance our shared commitment -empowering every part of the organization to adapt, connect, and grow stronger together. You will bring a learning mindset, foster curiosity, self-reflection, and listen deeply to those around you.

Key Responsibilities

(30%) Storytelling

  • Support and execute internal and external communications plans that reflect and elevate the voices, values, and lived experiences from across the organization and community.
  • Distill insights from across OEB’s constituents, and highlight stories to drive alignment and informed decision-making across audiences.
  • Support design and deployment of a variety of feedback strategies (e.g., pulse surveys, listening sessions, etc.), synthesizing findings to inform strategy and ensure team approach is grounded in participant/partner input.


(20%) Strategic Communication

  • Design and implement communication strategies that align with organizational goals and team priorities and amplify strategies that demonstrate OEB’s impact.
  • Ensure consistency and clarity across all communication channels for the OEB team, including internal communications, the intranet, knowledge management, and staff updates.


(20%) Event Operations

  • Support the strategy and execution of high-impact events that reinforce culture and community.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure events are welcoming, accessible, and aligned with organizational values.
  • Manage event logistics, vendor relationships, and post-event evaluation.


(30%) Design

  • Champion human-centered design principles in all experience touchpoints.
  • Design/co-design in-person and virtual engagements based on prior insights.
  • Develop and publish toolkits, templates, and visual resources that enable teams across the organization to foster a sense of belonging in their respective contexts.
  • Ensure all designed materials are accessible and aligned with the brand and core values.


Your Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in communications, strategy, or related fields.
  • Exceptional storytelling and writing skills, with a strong design sensibility.
  • Proven track record of supporting cross-functional initiatives that drive engagement and an experience of belonging.
  • Experience managing events and communications in complex organizations.
  • Deep understanding of belonging and organizational culture.
  • Ability to synthesize insights and translate them into compelling communications.
  • Experience working across teams and functions in a complex organization.
  • Commitment to Teach For America’s mission and values, with a deep understanding of belonging and experience-centered design.
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree

Your Compensation

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role . The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Tier A: $86,500 - $111,500

Tier B: $94,300 - $121,500

Tier C: $102,200 -$131,600
