Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Thompson School of Social Work and Public Health, Department of Public Health Sciences, located at the University of Hawaii (UH) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

  • MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:** $5,800 - $6,800/Mon.

Duties

Designs, implements, and manages analysis and reporting systems for alcohol, substance use, and mental health indicators with a focus on improving the alcohol and substance use system and prevention efforts within the state. Ensures appropriate data from various sources are acquired and utilized for analyses. Tasks will include the data cleaning and management, secondary data analysis, and evidence to inform the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and policies related to alcohol and substance use systems. Communicates with external partners as needed for project purposes. Leads the planning, organizing, and coordination of meetings with pertinent stakeholders in multiple sectors including substance use, mental health, law enforcement, medical care, public health, social services, public safety, and housing. Develops, produces, and maintains materials for communication with stakeholders and plans, solicits, and makes presentations to stakeholders. Responsible for conducting literature reviews and writing reports and assisting in writing manuscripts. Assists with timely completion of extramurally funded deliverables. Attends meetings, including but not limited to, community, County, and State level meetings.

Primary Qualifications

**EDUCATION**

Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Public Health, Data Science, Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or related field.

**EXPERIENCE**

Two to four (2-4) years of experience in an academic or research setting in epidemiology, public health, research policy, EHR, healthcare, or another other aspects of applied social research. Experience with data collection procedures and analysis in these settings. Experience utilizing statistical and analytical software programs (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, Tableau).

**KNOWLEDGE**

Good working understanding of systems of care and data for those systems of care, including one or more sectors such as: substance use, mental health, law enforcement, medical care, public health, public safety, social services, housing, or other related sectors. Familiarity with the importance of the application of general research methods, statistics, data science, or research methodology related to substance use or mental health issues specifically. Knowledge of institutional review boards (IRBs), human subject protection, and regulatory requirements.

**ABILITIES and SKILLS**

Ability to prepare manuscript, presentations, reports, and other documents using Google Suite, Microsoft Office, R, and LaTeX. Outstanding verbal and written communication, writing, and interpersonal skills. Ability to apply cultural literacy, cultural humility and cultural safety to research question formation and data analysis. Ability to be detail oriented.

Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

**PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS**

Ability to perform repetitive arm and hand motions, and static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
