We are looking for motivated individuals majoring in Engineering, Technology and Sciences to support disciplines across Pratt & Whitney as part of our Engineering Development Program (EDP) focused on the areas of Product Safety, Certification & Validation (PSCV), and of Development Operations (DO).

The hiring department is Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI). This role is responsible for the design, configuration, and programing of data acquisition systems used by the FTI group to collect data from both development and compliance test engines. The FTI engineer’s role will include working with other groups within Pratt & Whitney as well as interfacing with external suppliers and customers to meet objectives. This position requires knowledge of related industry standards and practices, as well as the ability to adhere to department work instructions and industry best practices. The FTI Engineer will also be expected to support off-site locations to support FTI objectives at our customer sites.

What You Will Do

  • Responsibilities may include working on tasks related to commercial engines, military engines or both depending on business need. Must be willing to obtain a security clearance.
  • PSCV is responsible for the planning, assembly, testing, and certification of development engines as well as ensuring product safety and quality requirements. DO is responsible for providing development services and the data to support working in unison with PSCV to develop current and future engines for global commercial airlines, industrial partners, and military customers.
  • Travel to domestic and international internal and external customer sites up to 50%

Associates in the Engineering Development Program (EDP) may work in disciplines across our engineering organization, including but not limited to:

  • Engine Validation Planning, Assembly, Test and Analysis Engineering
  • Development and Operational Engine Safety Engineering
  • Assembly Process Engineering 
  • Measurement Systems Engineering
  • Test Systems Engineering,
  • Test Operations Engineering

Flight Test Instrumentation:

  • Collaborate with other group members to problem solve, troubleshoot, and support internal and external customer test objectives.
  • Directly interface with internal and external customers for coordinating instrumentation tasks
  • Design electrical and pneumatic systems and produce AUTOCAD sketches for harness and data system fabrication.
  • Create system level documentation that includes work instructions.
  • Fabricate with small hand tools (such as crimping tools, wrenches, small screw drivers and wire cutters)

What You Will Learn

  • Candidates hired will begin their first 2 years at Pratt & Whitney as part of the Engineering Development Program (EDP) under the Development Operations (DO) or Product Safety, Certification, Validation & Engineering Quality (PSCV&EQ) Organization. This consists of three rotations of approximately 8-months in duration in three different departments across either or both of our two organizations (DO/PSCV&EQ).
  • Upon their 2-year graduation, they will return to their hiring department (1st rotation) for at least 1 year. The intent of our EDP is to offer breadth & depth in various technical experiences through challenging positions available in our organizations. This program will help expand your professional and technical competencies that will serve as the foundation for exceptional contributions that you will make at Pratt & Whitney.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Computer, or Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Data Science or a related field.
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Internship experience with Pratt & Whitney, RTX, or within the aerospace industry
  • Experience collaborating with a team to develop innovative ideas
  • Experience communicating clear and effective messages to a broad audience
  • Experience with creative problem-solving and adaptability in responding to new business challenges

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 55,000 USD - 107,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
