The Data Science Intern will work within the IT team to analyze data, build machine learning models, and document methodologies and workflows. This role will also collaborate across various functions to communicate insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity to gain real life experience interacting with scientists, engineers, and IT professionals in the biotech industry.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, BI and Analytics, and is part of the Information Technology organization located in Torrance, CA. This is an on-site role.

What You Will Do

  • Analyze structured and unstructured data from diverse sources (e.g., clinical trials, genomics, manufacturing, sales, laboratory instruments)
  • Build and evaluate machine learning models for predictive or classification tasks relevant to drug development, diagnostics, or operations
  • Perform data wrangling, cleaning, and feature engineering on complex datasets. Develop visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Present findings to the team and potentially broader audiences within the organization
  • Assist in designing experiments and analyzing results for research studies
  • Document methodologies, workflows, and results in clear and reproducible formats

Who You Are

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with data analysis tools and languages such as Python, R, SQL, or similar
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Power BI, Tableau)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in :

  • Exposure to life sciences data such as genomics, proteomics, clinical trial data, EHR, or lab instrument data
  • Familiarity with statistical methods used in biological or clinical research
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Knowledge of version control systems like Git
  • Interest in life sciences and passion for using data to improve health outcomes

The hourly range for this role is $25.00 - $32.00. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
