Job Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is looking for a strategic and experienced Public Relations & Communications Contractor to provide comprehensive PR support across multiple areas of our organization. This contract role will work closely with internal teams and external agencies to execute on brand communications, message and content development, and media outreach.


Location: Continental United States (100% remote)

Travel: 20%


This is a 9–12-month contract position.

Key Responsibilities


Brand Communications and PR

  • Serve as primary point of contact for media inquiries, ensuring timely and strategic responses, collaborating with internal leadership to manage and respond to incoming media requests
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of partnership PR plans, including the development of PR strategies and materials alongside a PR agency, targeted media outreach and media relationship development
  • Create partner-specific messaging and materials that align with both organizations' brand guidelines and objectives
  • Lead the end-to-end award submission process, identifying relevant opportunities and managing timelines; tracking submission deadlines and managing follow-up communications with award organizations
  • Develop compelling award applications, including positioning statements, case studies, and supporting materials, coordinating with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and approvals


Communications Materials and Content Development

  • Create comprehensive toolkits for agency use, including customizable press release templates, media outreach guides, and campaign resources aligned with national initiatives and brand calendar moments
  • Participate in network webinars to present resources, share best practices, and provide guidance on PR strategies
  • Respond to agency requests for brainstorming sessions, strategic consultation, and implementation support for PR and influencer activities


PR Agency Management

  • Manage day-to-day relationship with external PR agency partner
  • Coordinate meeting schedules and facilitate communication across Influencer, PR, and Marketing teams
  • Ensure alignment of campaign strategies, deliverables, and performance metrics
  • Share best practices and optimize collaborative workflows between internal and external teams


Media Monitoring & Reporting

  • Maintain and optimize comprehensive media tracking system to capture coverage, impressions, and advertising value equivalency
  • Identify and flag potential communications issues or crisis situations for immediate team attention
  • Compile and distribute weekly media roundups highlighting key coverage, impactful stories, and notable connections


General

  • Provide coaching and support to team members
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment with Communications department


Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in public relations, communications, or media relations
  • Proven track record of securing media coverage and managing successful PR campaigns
  • Strong writing and editing skills with ability to craft compelling press materials
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience managing agency relationships


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations or mission-driven brands
  • Experience with award submission processes and recognition programs
  • Knowledge of crisis communications and issue management
  • Familiarity with influencer relations and integrated marketing campaigns
  • Proficiency with tools such as Asana and PR Newswire (or similar project management and media distribution platforms)


Contract Details

  • This is a contract position with flexible working arrangements
  • Remote work with occasional travel for meetings or events
  • Contract duration and compensation to be discussed based on experience and scope
