The Hardware Engineering team leads the design, development and production of mechanical, electrical and test equipment hardware at Raytheon. We use state-of-the-art tools, processes, technology, and CORE principles. Our capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test and documentation.
The Precision Control Actuation Systems (PCAS) department is part of the Hardware Engineering functional organization. PCAS is an engineering organization of approximately 150 people who are in Tucson, AZ and Huntsville, AL. We develop new Control Actuation Systems (CAS) including Aerodynamic Tail Fin and Canard Steering Control Sections, Thrust Vector, Attitude and Divert Control Systems, Control Surface and Wing Deployment mechanisms, Stage Separation and Nosecone Ejection Systems, and more.
The Precision Control and Actuation Systems (PCAS) department is seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Technical Lead to join our team onsite at the Tucson, AZ facility. We are currently hiring a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer (P5) to provide technical leadership overseeing our Common CAS Test. The technical lead will oversee PCAS program acceptance test needs to ensure program requirements are met for low and high volume production, with acceptable technical rigor, meet time standards, and support program schedules.
As an Engineering Technical Lead, you will establish and maintain technical rigor and ensure technical analysis is performed correctly, clearly and properly documented. You will be responsible for general understanding and oversight of all aspects of the Common Test Team functions and collaboration across all aspects of the Common Test Team, including planning, execution, resource management, and technical team leadership. You will collaborate closely with a council of senior CAS experts as well as program stakeholders such as the program CAS Execution Lead, Program CAS Technical Lead, Cross-Product IPT Lead, Program Chief Engineer, Program Manager, Supply Chain, Suppliers, Operations, Quality, and various engineering disciplines.
What You Will Do:
Technical Leadership: Leverage CAS engineering and test expertise to solve complex design challenges, make data-driven technical decisions, and develop, integrate, and prove-in test solutions and associated integration assets. Provide mentoring and guidance to all team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Utilize continuous improvement methodologies such as Customer Oriented Results and Excellence (CORE) (or equivalent systems such as Six-Sigma) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly with Sustainment (DFMA/S) to drive improvements into products and processes. Develop and leverage plans and strategies such as Knowledge Point Plans (KPPs) to mature designs that meet program Statement of Work (SOW) and qualification requirements.
Liaison and Coordination: Provide day-to-day liaison between Common CAS Test; execution lead, team members and programmatic leadership across all phases of development, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
Proposal Support: Support cost and schedule planning efforts, including cost Rough Orders of Magnitude (ROMs), formal Basis of Estimates (BOEs), project plans, and technology maturity plans.
Scope Management: Identify and manage out of scope activities per stakeholder requests and bring implementation solutions to leadership. Write and review SOW documentation. Collaborate with procurement and external suppliers to provide Technical Evaluations of manpower and material proposals.
Leadership and Engagement: Engage senior management and technical leaders on various topics, demonstrating superior organizational, presentation, and tactical execution skills. Contribute to developing and aligning common program vision, execution strategies, and plans.
Risk Management: Actively work with program integration lead to identify, manage, and mitigate risks or capture opportunities.
Grade Expectations: You will be expected to work autonomously, manage stakeholders, set expectations for rigor, leverage the organization to fill gaps to achieve objectives, and have expert or mastery level knowledge within the control mechanism development domain. In addition, you will be expected to flex responsibilities based on changing needs of the program.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
Minimum Ten (10) of engineering experience in systems, electrical, or mechanical design, with a preference for CAS test development across all phases.
Prior technical lead experience in roles such as Technical Lead, or IPT Lead.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
