What To Expect (Job Responsibilities)

• Review inpatient admissions to identify and clarify missing or incomplete documentation
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and coding staff to ensure accurate health record documentation
• Utilize clinical documentation systems to conduct reviews and identify opportunities for clarification
• Communicate with providers regarding unclear or conflicting health record documentation
• Educate staff and physicians on clinical documentation opportunities in various settings
  
  

What Is Required (Qualifications)

• Certified Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Technician (RHIT), or an associate degree in a healthcare-related discipline with Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification, and a minimum of 3 years of medical coding experience; or a registered nurse (or medical school graduate) with a minimum of 3 years of inpatient clinical experience
• Current RN license or RHIA/RHIT/CCS certification (medical school graduates are exempt)
• Must acquire CCDS or CDIP certification within 3 years of hire
• Excellent observation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
  
  

How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

• One year of CDI experience for nurse candidates
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• CCDS or CDIP Certification
