Summary:
The Accounting Manager oversees the daily operations of the accounting department and ensures accurate and timely financial reporting. This role is responsible for managing the general ledger, supervising accounting staff, maintaining internal controls, and supporting the month-end and year-end close processes. The Accounting Manager plays a critical role in supporting compliance, reporting, audits, and financial decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Manage daily accounting operations.
• Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper classification of all transactions.
• Support the preparation of internal financial reports, dashboards, and external reporting packages.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of AP and staff accountants.
• Assign and review work, provide training, and conduct performance evaluations.
• Promote a collaborative and accountable team culture.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and procedures.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting and transactional processes.
• Assist with the coordination of audits, including preparation of audit schedules and support.
• Collaborate with operations, project managers, and finance to ensure accurate job costing, revenue recognition, and cost tracking.
• Monitor and support cash flow management, including banking, AR collections, and payment processing.
• Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Recommend and help implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to travel as needed (approximately 10%).
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
• Work performed primarily in an office environment.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and lift and carry light office supplies up to ten (10) pounds.
• Visual acuity to read and interpret financial documents, spreadsheets, and computer screens.
• Hearing ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and external contacts.
